Precast concrete specialist FP McCann has secured Gateway 2 approval for Prosperity Developments’ Smithfield Plot 1 project in Birmingham’s Digbeth district.

The green light from the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) paves the way for construction to start next April on the 22-storey residential tower.

FP McCann willl be in charge of the whole design, manufacture, and installation of the precast concrete frame on the £130m scheme with Prosperity acting as the management contractor.

The development will deliver 305 modern apartments with commercial space at ground level.

The project is targeted for completion in Q4 2027, with submission to Gateway 3 planned and an occupation target of Q1 2028.

A spokesperson for FP McCann said: “We are immensely proud to have achieved Gateway 2 approval for Smithfield Plot 1.

“This is a testament to our team’s hard work and dedication, as well as our close collaboration with Prosperity Developments and our project partners.

“It highlights our technical proficiency and unwavering commitment to delivering safe, high-quality buildings. A full precast solution for a 22-storey structure allows accelerated construction, exceptional quality control, and a more sustainable build process.”
